December SOL Test Scores
Any student who took an SOL test in December can pick up his/her scores beginning Tuesday, December 16th in the 4th Street Office.
For Parents: Staying Safe in Cyberspace
In the age of technology, parents and children need to be equipped with information to help them stay safe in cyberspace. On Wednesday, December 17th, parents are invited to learn more about internet safety. This parent presentation will be held in the enclosed cafeteria from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM, and it will be presented by the Prince William County Police Department.
Congratulations to our AP Scholars!
158 Hylton students who took AP exams in 2014 have been granted AP Scholar Awards from the College Board for their excellent qualifying scores. These students will be recognized at a Celebration Breakfast on Thursday, December 18th at 7:45 a.m. in the enclosed cafeteria. Their parents and guardians are also invited to attend. A list of students can be found in the front entrance area. 
Winter Break
Winter Break will begin after school dismisses on Friday, December 19th. School will re-open on Monday, January 5th, and it will be an even day. We wish you all a safe and happy holiday season!
Office 365 / Microsoft Office for Students
In addition to C.D. Hylton Google Apps accounts, PWCS is providing students with Microsoft Office 365 accounts. With this account comes licenses for the student to install MS Office 2013 software on up to 5 devices of his/her choice. This video will walk students through the process of signing in for the first time and downloading the software.  Students must sign in to their accounts for the first time from a school computer.  Students interested in registering for an account can see Mrs. Treichler in Room E165B.
Boys State Information
The American Legion Post 364 has opened nominations for Juniors from the Woodbridge area to attend Virginia's 73rd session of Boys State, which will be held June 21-27 at Radford University in Radford, Virginia.   Interviews for those who are eligible, and who have submitted the proper nomination forms, will be held at 11:00 am on March 14, 2015 at American Legion Post 364.  All who are interested in being nominated from Hylton this year should see Mrs. Covington in the Counseling office by February 6th for further information and forms.
The Watchdog Newspaper Contest
The Watchdog Newspaper ​is hosting a contest for a new logo to be printed on every upcoming Watchdog issue! The winner will receive a FREE YEARBOOK and a SPOTLIGHT IN THE UPCOMING FEBRUARY ISSUE! Submit your designs (photograph, graphic or drawing) to HyltonNewspaper@gmail.com or drop it off to E-134. The deadline is Friday, January 9th. Click here for submission details. 
You're Invited: High School Parent Summit
Attention Parents: You're invited to a High School Parent Summit at Hylton High School on Saturday, January 10th from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. The program offers expert presentations on graduation requirements, earning college credit through tests, financial aid and scholarships, college admissions and programs, SAT/ACT information, career and workforce information, trade and technical options, and much more. Attendance is free, but space is limited. Click here to register.
High School Program Information Nights
Mark your calendars!  On Tuesday, January 13th, Hylton High School is hosting an information night for all students, parents and guardians interested in the different high school programs we will offer in 2015-16. These include the Center for International Studies and Languages, the TV Production program and the Auto Tech program. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Specific locations for the different programs will be listed as you enter the building. The county-wide on-line application process will be explained at both events.
Applications for Hylton's Specialty Programs
Are you interested in applying for one of Hylton High School's specialty programs: The Center for International Studies and Languages (CISL); TV Production; or Automotive Technology? If so, click here to access the online program application. *You may encounter a security warning prior to accessing the application. The website is safe; please push through the security warning. The deadline for Hylton's specialty program applications is February 1, 2015. If your base school is Hylton High School, and you are interested in one of these speciality programs, you will also need to complete the online application. Students currently enrolled in one of Hylton's speciality programs do not need to reapply for the 2015-16 school year.

Excellence in Co-teaching Initiative
Congratulations to C.D. Hylton on its selection as a demonstration site in the VDOE's "Excellence in Co-teaching Initiative" for the current school year, and to Mrs. Shannon Miller and Mrs. Gillian Harvey on their selection as Hylton's featured participants. As a demonstration site, Hylton will showcase the implementation of co-teaching; promoting a collaborative model in which general and special educators share responsibility for the achievement of all students in the general education curriculum through active co-teaching, collaboration, and implementation of effective inclusive practices.
