Hylton’s “A World of Difference" Program recruiting new students
Hylton is beginning its 14th year of participation in the “A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE” peer-training program. The program allows students to use the positive power of peer influence to promote respect in our school. The peer trainers are recruiting new students for the program. Please see Mrs. Brown in the Counseling Department for information on joining the program. An interest meeting will be held Tuesday, October 13 at 2:20p in room E107.

Do you have a convertible?
Hylton's Student Council is in need of convertibles for the Homecoming Parade.  The parade will be held on Friday, October 9th from 4-6 pm.  If you have access to a convertible, and are willing to drive it in our parade, please contact Ms. Hunter, SCA advisor, at huntersm@pwcs.edu. Your help would be greatly appreciated!
Senior Portrait Make Ups
The final round of Senior Portrait make ups is October 7th-9th in the auditorium. If you are a senior and have not taken your senior picture, see the schedule on the senior board in the commons or outside room E134 for your time and date. Fall Touch Base
On Monday, October 12th, Hylton HS will be hosting its Fall Touch Base event from 7:30 - 9:30 AM.  During Touch Base, parents can attend mini-conferences with their children's teachers to check on their progress. There is no school for students on that day. Click here for the flyer.
Parents of Sophomores and Juniors: The National PSAT test will be given here at Hylton on Wednesday, October 14th. Please remember to bring a calculator if you are testing. There will be a modified bell schedule that day. PWCS will be paying for each sophomore and junior to take the test. All sophomores and juniors were given practice test booklets in their English classes. The PSAT is an important first step towards college. We strongly suggest students review the booklet to prepare for the reading and math sections of the test. Click here to view the Official Student Guide to the PSAT.
Senior Schedule for October 14th (PSAT Day)
Click here to view a senior schedule for October 14th (PSAT Day), including field trip details. Seniors are expected to attend school on October 14th. Attendance will be taken and the normal procedures for absences and early dismissals must be followed.

Youth Salute Special Recognitions
Congratulations to all the 2015-2016 Hylton Youth Salute nominees who were recognized by the PWC Youth Salute Council for their outstanding leadership and support in the community!

A special congratulations goes out to two of our students, Rachel Jenkins and Sara Howell, for being recognized as part of the PWC Youth Salute Council Top 10!  While that is an honor itself, the two didn't stop there!  Rachel Jenkins took third place and Sara Howell was the overall winner and named the PWC Youth Salute Council Youth Leader of the Year. Congratulations, ladies!

Volunteers Needed: Sophomore Interview Day
On April 21st, C.D. Hylton will be hosting Sophomore Interview Day. The purpose of Sophomore Interview Day is to provide our students with the proper interviewing skills needed to be competitive in securing employment in the world of work. We ask that you consider volunteering to become an "interviewer" and help us conduct interviews so our students are ready to interview in the real world. If you are interested in participating, please click here

Virginia Farm to School Week
PWCS School Food and Nutrition Services celebrates Virginia Farm to School Week, October 5-9, 2015! Did you know your school cafeteria serves seasonal Virginia produce all year long? During the month of October, several of your school lunch items are coming straight from a Virginia Farm, including: apples, cabbage, kale, fall squash, yellow squash, lettuce, milk, peppers, sweet potatoes and tomatoes. 2015-16 College Fairs
All seniors and juniors and their parents are strongly encouraged to attend one of the college fairs scheduled this fall to explore post-graduation options. Representatives from various colleges, universities, technical schools, and the military will attend. The Western PWC College Fair will be held at Osbourn High School, located at 9005 Tudor Lane in Manassas, on Sept. 28 from 6-8 p.m. The Eastern PWC College Fair will be held on Oct. 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Hylton High School. Save time and pre-register for the event at http://gotocollegefairs.com/.
Hylton Grad Fair
Attention Senior Students and Parents: Please join us on Saturday, October 17th from 9:00 - 2:00 p.m. in the Commons for the Hylton Grad Fair. Parents and seniors will be able to place and purchase their graduation order from Herff Jones.  Seniors may also order a class ring, yearbook, and senior class t-shirt at the event.
Hylton Swim Team
On Tuesday, October 20th at 7:00 PM, the Hylton Bulldogs Swim Team will be hosting a team registration and information meeting in the Enclosed Cafeteria.  Parents and swimmers interested are invited to come meet the coaches and hear about our terrific Bulldogs Swim Team, which had 7 swimmers qualify for States, the top swim competition last season. The boy's relay team also broke two 17 year old team relay records at Regional Champs. We will be accepting registrations at this time.  Please bring copies of physical exams and concussion training certificates along with your registration check

Hylton congratulates Mr. Sampedro and Mrs. Wilson!
Mr. Sampedro, Social Studies teacher, and Mrs. Wilson, Mathematics teacher, have been nominated by their colleagues for the Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award and the Dale City Civic Association Teacher of the Year Award. We will be submitting their nomination packets by the end of October. Parents, students and members of our community, we invite you to contribute a letter describing how one or both of these two exceptional teachers has influenced you. Please email your letter to Meg Holt at holtmh@pwcs.eduClick here for additional information about these two awards. 
Office 365 / Microsoft Office for Students
In addition to C.D. Hylton Google Apps accounts, PWCS is providing students with Microsoft Office 365 accounts. With this account comes licenses for the student to install MS Office 2013 software on up to 5 devices of his/her choice. Students must sign in to their accounts for the first time from a school computer. Students interested in registering for an account can see Mrs. Treichler in E165B.
